چکیده

SUSANNE WYMANN Institute of Geography University of Bern 12 Hallerstrasse 3012 Bern; Switzerland ABSTRACT/GIS overlay techniques were used to provide a quantitative historic documentation of deforestation and land-use dynamics in the Middle Mountains of Nepal between 1947 and 1990. Deforestation was most critical in the 1960s, but active afforestation programs in the 1980s. have reversed the process. In spite of these trends, the degradation problem is more complex. The GIS evaluation showed that 86% of the recently afforested landis now under pine plantations located primarily at lower elevations and moderately steep slopes. In contrast, rainfed agricultural expansion is most pronounced on acidic soils and steeper, upper elevation sites, suggesting marginalization of agriculture. Agricultural expansion coupled with major losses of grazing land to pine forests are the key processes pointing towards major animal feed deficits. An alternative animal feed source is suggested through GIS using a topographically based microclimatic classification to generate a tree-planting map where the optimum ecological conditions for selective native fodder tree species are identified.

Ecological Capability Evaluation of Sharui Watershed for Forestery Land Us by Makhdoom Model and AHP Method

Forests areas of Iran in comparison with the world is very low and this low area is in demolition threat always. Hence, the remainder of these forests should be managed based on ecological capability evaluation. With regard to importance of subject, ecological capability for forestry in the Sharui watershed, Khuzestan province, was evaluated in 2015. For this purpose, the Makhdoom model and AHP...

Survey of Directional Felling and Analysis of Effective Factors on Felling Error (Case Study; Iranian Caspian forests)

Economic and environmental logging is important for sustainable wood production in the Caspian forests, north of Iran. Predetermination of the skid trail network and directional felling is a usual recommended method to reduce logging impact. The aim of this study was evaluation of directional felling and finding factors effective on felling error. Totally 135 trees were selected randomly for di...

Can Ground Water Sampling Strategies Be Improved by Incorporating Fuzzy Logic in a Gis?

Contamination of ground water is a major concern for citizens as well as local, state, and federal agencies that are involved with the management, quality and quantity of water and human health. However, the generation of vulnerability maps or delineations of vulnerable zones in a map for monitoring purposes are difficult since ground water contamination depends upon numerous, complex interacti...

Runoff Simulation of Land-use Changes Based on the Different Slopes of Erhai Basin Using SWAT Model

Changes of land use/land cover have a significant impact on runoff by altering the surface evaporation, soil moisture conditions and the amount of trapped ground cover, which directly impact the sustainable development of the watershed ecology. In this paper, based on remote sensing images, we simulate runoff of land-use changes of different slopes using GIS technology and SWAT model in Erhai w...

A Watershed Management Tool Using SWAT and ArcInfo

While watershed management is gaining wide support, the spatial information on socioeconomic and physical processes needed for evaluating alternative watershed management plans is not readily accessible to local decision makers. With wide adoption of geographic information system (GIS) technology, a user-friendly and interactive decision support system appears to be an efficient tool in watersh...
